What is a “Pink Out”?

Pink Out is a day, and sometimes a football game, for students to wear pink for breast cancer and Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is October. Breast cancer is a type of cancer that mainly affects women, but it’s possible for men to have it too, to put it into perspective, the average five-year survival rate for people with breast cancer is 89%, ten-year being 83% and, fifteen being 78%.

Students were encouraged to wear pink on Friday, September 29, to school and to the following game at 7:00 at our home stadium to spread awareness for those that we know who are battling it. For example, Mrs. McGee, a fifth-grade teacher at McCreery, whom a lot of us have had in the past, fighting her battle against breast cancer, and is currently undergoing treatment. You can make cards for her and drop them off in the guidance office. During lunch, the MC Student Council was selling Pink Out beads, pink heart sunglasses, and, pink bracelets. On Friday, many students participated in our Pink Out, the hallways were full of pink. Although we lost the football game, Student Council raised $2,500 to go towards Birdie’s Closet.
