After school on November 2nd, Marion Center’s Sr. High choir put on a spectacular performance of “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman at the ribbon-cutting ceremony of Kopchick Hall.
Kopchick Hall is the new science building on the IUP campus focusing on the categories of natural science and mathematics. Kopchick Hall’s mission is “To create an amazing space for the next generation of students to accomplish their dreams and make it their own.” The building is named after John and Char Labay Kopchick, two former IUP students.
At the end of his speech, John Kopchick says, “In conclusion, we hope that their [students’] experience at IUP will help them succeed in their life pursuits and perhaps ‘change the world’!”
There were more than four hundred people, including IUP officials, major donors for the building, Mr. and Mrs. John and Char Labay Kopchick, and IUP president Michael Driscoll attended the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Marion Center’s Sr. High choir was selected to be the only performing group at the ceremony. “It was an honor to be asked to perform,” Mrs. Stolarz, Marion Center’s choir director. She is thrilled to play a role in uniting music and science.
The song they performed, “A Million Dreams”, a well-known song from The Greatest Showman was requested because officials thought that its lyrics aligned with the mission of Kopchick Hall.
Marion Center’s Sr. High choir’s hard work really paid off during their performance, which Mrs. Stolarz said was a “Really, really cool opportunity.”
