The Marion Center girls’ basketball team recently embarked on a journey to Bishop Carroll. They faced Central Martinsburg, where their relentless defense secured a dominant lead throughout the game, triumphing over the Dragons with a final score of 49 to 30. This victory propelled them into the championship game, marking the first time in at least four years that the girls reached such a pinnacle in a tip-off tourney.
Saturday the girls were greeted by a fervent crowd in a packed gym, heightening the intensity of the event. Following a hard-fought final, our Lady Stingers emerged victorious, defeating Bishop Carroll with a scoreline of 48 to 42.
Senior standout Lydia Miller concluded the tournament with an impressive stat line of 32 points, 17 rebounds, and 7 steals, earning her the well-deserved title of tournament MVP. Freshman Macie Miller made significant contributions with 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 14 steals. Junior Brynnley Haggerty added 10 points and 5 steals, while freshman Alivia Ruddock chipped in with 8 points and 6 rebounds. Mya Lipsie’s outstanding performance also earned her a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
The team is buzzing with excitement about the upcoming season. Junior post player Cheyenne Silvis expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I am very excited about the upcoming season. We have a lot of strong athletes and strong team synergy.” The girls are poised to achieve great things this season.
The Varsity Girls Basketball team takes to the court at home on December 14, 2023. Tip-off is at 7 PM. Junior High Girls Basketball plays at 4PM, with JV to follow at 6PM. Come out and cheer on your Stingers Girls Basketball team!
