Every year StuCo, otherwise known as Student Council puts on an annual homecoming dance. The theme for this year’s homecoming (also known as HoCo) was the 70’s and 80’s.
Homecoming court couples who were voted for and chosen by the Senior class included Molly Beer and Owen Hopper, Claire Hood and Landon Cook, Brooke Heigley and JJ Ferarro, Mollie Shadle and Drew Runk, Mikayla Gatskie and Mason Desmond, and the sixth and final couple, Madison Lipsie and Collin Anderson.
In the week leading up to the homecoming game and dance, students were encouraged to participate in theme days such as tie-dye day, rhyme without a reason day, Adam Sandler day, meme day, and spirit day. Wednesday, September 25, there was a homecoming bonfire to which all students and community members were invited. The Student Counsel then put on a homecoming pep rally on Friday, September 27th.
The homecoming pep rally was off the hook. The winning teacher court couple was Mr. Gino Colella and Mrs. Amy Almes which consisted of Mr. Colella in a lifeguard outfit getting getting down and groovy on the gym floor.
After the pep rally and after the school day, was the Marion Center homecoming parade, including all extra-curricular activities and the homecoming court. Music from the marching band smiles from the runners, football players, and cheerleaders.
Although MC lost the homecoming game to Northern Cambria, during the halftime the king and queen were announced. Brooke Heigley was crowned the 2024 Homecoming Queen by the previous Homecoming Queen, Lydia Miller. JJ Ferarro was crowned the 2024 Homecoming King by the previous Homecoming King, Cobe Hankinson.
The groovy night of homecoming was a blast for all the students who attended. With pink and orange heart glasses, a photo booth, a groovy DJ, and a roaring crowd, this homecoming was filled with funk.
In an interview with Mrs. Kara Stallard, one of the Student Council advisors she said, “Believe it or not, the planning for Homecoming begins in the Spring of the previous school year. We always try to nail down a theme and action plan for HoCo prior to leaving for the Summer. As soon as school starts in the Fall, StuCo officers work hard in STAR and Study Halls preparing theme days, planning the pep rally, choosing dance decor, and preparing for their HoCo meeting with Mr. Mark Magolis & Mr. Scott Peterson (and these tasks are just to name a few).” Mrs. Stallard & Ms. Kalgren are the advisors of StuCo. They 0versee and assist StuCo throughout the planning process. Mrs. Stallard & Ms. Kalgren also make sure all StuCo plans are approved by Mr. Magolis & Mr. Peterson, and they help take care of the bookwork. StuCo is always the busiest the week of Homecoming, as StuCo is doing the following: ensuring theme days are a success, helping Homecoming Court be prepared for their big Friday night, putting on the pep rally, organizing a parade, orchestrating half-time events, and decorating for the dance at 7 am Saturday. It’s hard to accurately explain just how much StuCo does for HoCo; just know that there is a checklist that is several pages long. There are a lot of little moving parts to planning HoCo, and there are traditions that StuCo works hard to uphold. In summation, if it wasn’t for the pride and hard work of the StuCo officers and members, then Homecoming would be less than memorable and far from exciting. Mrs. Stallard & Ms. Kalgren are always extremely proud of the work that their club does to put on an awesome HoCo.
Overall the dance and the other festivities were a huge success. Students had tons of fun and made lots of memories with their peers and friends. Make sure to say thank you to Marion Center Student Counsel for putting homecoming on this year!!!
