After a hard-fought game under the Friday night lights, the Marion Center community came together to witness an intense matchup. Although the game resulted in a tough loss, the Marion Center team displayed unwavering determination.
In a game that had gone over 90 minutes without a score, the Purchase Line offense finally found their breakthrough. Senior quarterback John Elick stepped up with an impressive performance, scoring two rushing touchdowns just two minutes apart in the fourth quarter. These crucial plays led the Red Dragons to a remarkable 14-7 victory in a Heritage Conference game held at John R. Mallino Stadium.
With the team trailing 7-0, Purchase Line had a touchdown, a 1-yard plunge, came with just 7:35 left in the fourth quarter. This moment was particularly significant, as it marked the end of the Red Dragons’ 90-minute scoring drought, igniting a sense of relief and hope.
Marion Center had a strong start, scoring on their opening possession with a 12-play, 60-yard drive that concluded with Alex Stewart’s 9-yard touchdown run. Although they had opportunities within Purchase Line’s red zone, they couldn’t capitalize on them.
