The Marion Center girls basketball team has made it to the Pennsylvania Girls Basketball Playoffs and advanced to the Elite 8 for the first time in 30 years! The girls’ first playoff game against Winchester Thurston on Friday, March 8, 2024, went spectacularly. They started off the first half with a leading score of 37-15. The girls on the team all had a great experience being able to play in a Varsity playoff game. They ended their winning game with a score of 54-33.

On March 13, 2024, the girls team was sent off to yet another state playoff game. They traveled to Milton High School and played againt Montrose High School. The Montrose Meteors are known for their smart, defensive minds, but the Marion Center girls did not let that catch them off guard.

Coach Amy Trimble stated that this team would be hard to play against, but the girls were willing and determined to step up, and play hard. They lived up to what they said and came out strong. Marion Center led in the first half with a score of 23-8. They finished the game by once again letting all of the players on the bench participate in the game. The finishing score was Marion Center– 46 Montrose– 20.

This Friday, March 15, 2024, the girls will travel to Bald Eagle High School, and take on Marian Catholic. Marian Catholic’s latest game was a very close game. Marian won by one point with a score of 55-54. This next game is going to be challenging, but the girls are willing to step up and take the challenge with clear minds, quick feet, and strong teamwork. The next playoff game for our Lady Stingers will take place at Bald Eagle High School and will be against Marian Catholic High School, tip off will be at 7 p.m.

If you are interested in going to see the Lady Stingers compete in the Elite 8, make sure you bring a $5 deposit to ride one of the pep busses. Admission is free for high school students, thanks to some businesses funding the trip to the game.

One thing that I would like to accomplish is to write about how successful our sports teams are and how much potential they can have.
