The Indiana County Tourist Bureau recently hosted its Annual Event Wall Calendar contest in celebration of America’s 250th year of independence. Students from school districts across the county were encouraged to participate in this unique opportunity by submitting an art piece reflecting patriotism and dedication to our country’s independence.
Artwork from two Marion Center students, Junior, Victoria Snyder, and Sophomore, Nora Pollock, was selected by the ICTB Special Events America250PA Indiana County Committee. Both pieces reflected America’s freedoms, encompassing both the bright side and the less visible realities of freedom. Their artwork celebrates American core and national values by using color, symbolism, and composition, offering a unique and thoughtful perspective on these enduring ideals. The pieces serve as a visual reminder of America’s values by using art to tell the story. Their art transforms the spirit of our nation into a visual story, showing both the beauty and complexity of America’s well-known freedoms as well as the complexity that comes along with them.
Their artwork will be put on display in the Indiana County Tourist Bureau’s 2026 Annual Event Wall Calendar. While the artwork celebrates students’ creative sides, ultimately, it strengthens student engagement in United States history.
Their artwork not only shows their creative talents but also serves as a visual reminder of American ideals. Victoria and Nora’s pieces have viewers consider freedom from a distinctive perspective, its joy, challenges, and its responsibility. Through the stylistic choices, from the colors used to the composition, Victoria and Nora successfully demonstrate that freedom is not just a lived experience but also a deep and personal concept. These are some of the key characteristics that help define freedom in the United States.
As the United States approaches its 250th celebration of freedom, we should all take a moment to reflect on what those freedoms truly mean. American freedom is ambiguous; it’s not just found in the happy moments and those encouraging opportunities, but also in sacrifice, struggle, and perseverance. Over time, the value of these freedoms has been redefined by generations of Americans who believed in something bigger than themselves. Freedom is a privilege and a responsibility, one that must be valued and protected.
